Superintendent Ryan S. Saxe, Ed.D.

Dr. Ryan S. Saxe was sworn in as Superintendent of Berkeley County Schools on July 1, 2024, by 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Bridget Cohee. He is a West Virginia native and a graduate of Cabell Midland High School in Ona, WV. Dr. Saxe went on to earn an Associate of Science Degree from The Ohio State University; a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Environmental Education from West Virginia University; a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Marshall University; an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, both from Liberty University.

Dr. Saxe has been in the field of education for 19 years. During that time, he served roles in West Virginia as an Agriculture Education Teacher; Assistant Principal; Principal; WV Department of Education Coordinator in the Office of Federal Programs and School Improvement; Director, Professional Learning; Executive Director, Secondary Schools; Executive Director of Curriculum, Assessment and Professional Learning; and the last seven years as Superintendent of Cabell County Schools.

A Message From Dr. Saxe...

My mantra for the last seven years has been—from the boardroom to the classroom, our district must be focused on student learning and doing what is best for our students. I look forward to working with the Board, our school families, school leaders, teachers, and our service personnel to ensure the ongoing success and growth of Berkeley County Schools. We all share a common goal of achieving the very best learning outcomes for our students to ensure they are prepared for life after graduation. Ensuring that our students are college, career, or military-ready is something we should all be focused on.

Meeting the needs of our students and our families will take all of us working together. It’s essential that our schools are safe, that students and families feel welcome, and that high-quality learning takes place each and every day. Additionally, making sure that all staff feel valued and that Berkeley County Schools is a rewarding place to work is something that is very important to me. I look forward to collaborating with everyone in our school community to achieve these goals.
